Shared Care for ADHD and Autism (ASD) Medication
Shared Care for ADHD/Autism Medication
We can support patients with a referral to an appropriate NHS Right to Choose provider where this is clinically appropriate. However, please be aware that Pathfields does not enter into shared care prescribing arrangements for ADHD medication with Right to Choose providers.
This means that if medication is started or recommended by a Right to Choose provider, responsibility for prescribing and the associated monitoring will need to remain with that specialist provider.
We are also unable to enter into shared care arrangements with private ADHD/Autism clinics or other privately funded providers. If medication has been initiated or recommended as part of private care, the practice cannot take over responsibility for prescribing or monitoring that medication.
Patients considering an ADHD assessment should therefore take this into account when choosing a provider and should check whether the provider is able to continue prescribing medication if treatment is required.
Your GP can discuss the NHS Right to Choose referral pathway with you and, where appropriate, arrange a referral to an eligible provider. A Right to Choose referral can provide access to NHS-funded assessment and treatment, but it does not mean that prescribing will subsequently transfer to your GP practice.

We appreciate that the different assessment and prescribing pathways can be confusing. If you are unsure which route applies to you, please contact the practice and we can help explain the available options.
